A car wash? I know it seems most people I talk to have not had much success for the time involved, or they have moderate success.

We usually raise about $1000.00 for an event lasting 10am-1 or 2pm. The difference is in the how.

A method that can be applied to many events is used. We send Pathfnders out to get sponsors. If you have 10 Pathfinders and they can find 10 people to pledge $0.10 per car and you wash 20 cars in the day you will raise $200.00 this is a simply achieved goal. The more sponsors they get and the more help you have getting them the more you can earn.

You will also accept flat donations from those who do not wish to sponsor per car and accept per car pledges in various amounts up to $1.00. Allow donators to set limits at the time the pledge and you will do fine.

Consider adding a bake sale to the event, drivers can by goods while they wait. One year we sold candles too. Ofcourse you will accept donations from divers that day; you will not charge them.

Giving drivers something to buy is like the stuff they put next to the cash register in the store some people can not help themselves. When we help do this in hot country like Arizona we sell bottled water bought bulk at a local wharehouse store and marked up to just under normal retail. This always does well, other beverages are a good idea too.

For about $100.00 and some planning you can raise over $1000 in a day. Do it two times a year if your weather allows and you can fund a good Pathfinder year with this effort, or start planning for NAD Camporee 2009.

God Bless,

I agree with the last part of the above statement.
Start raising funds for the '09 Camporee now! :smt026
Setup a savings account and earn interest on the money while you wait.
Set a percentage of the money raised each year to be set aside for the big Camporees.

Mr. Mike

While car washes are quite the hit-and-miss sometimes, they're always a good stand-by for a fundraiser that'll raise at least some funds.

We've considered doing this. We'd like to earn the Exterior Housepainting Honor. Find a poor home in your community, and let them know that you'd like to adopt their house to paint it. Contact a local painter, and we've found they're more than willing to help out. Pathfinders buys the supplies and has the Pathfinderpower, and the painter supervises. The house looked bad before, so you can't really go that wrong.

Contact your local newspapers, they love to hear the stories like this, it gives the painter good publicity they couldn't get otherwise, and it puts your Pathfinders out in the community in a major way.

Now the carwash comes in... FREE carwash... put up signs the day or two before, and hold the carwash. Let everyone that comes through know that you're doing a service for the community, and that you're accepting donations, but only to help paint a poor house in the community. Have the newspaper clipping there, and the amount of donations you receive are tremendous. People see that the Pathfinders don't want money for a fun trip, or an outing... we want money to help others, and make the community better.

Our mission is to be a beacon of service to our community, and a reflection of Christian service to Christ. Don't forget that.
