I'd like to introduce Sweetlips101 as my daughter Stephanie,

Fish, you should have seen lightbulbs go on for her when I read her your response, I believe we will be renting that movie again soon.

I'm sure she'll keep you posted on what she decides to do. :)

Glad to have Stephanie here! And I hope she has a great deal of success with her ideas, I think they would be great to see. Hope to hear back soon on how it is going.

I have seen that movie at least twice. I really enjoyed it, 1. because I was involved with drill teams in ROTC, and 2. because of Pathfinders. If anyone would like to discuss the mechanics of drill movements, please drop me a message.

This last friday our pathfinders marched in a Veteran's Day Parade, one of the largest on the West Coast.

There's a few different groups that do drill demonstrations in front of the reviewing stand. And one of the best... who are known around here for their drills... is our local boot camp for trouble teens. Although... they have the ability to practice day in and day out... they are very good. I've seen them demonstrate a few times, and they have some relatively complex moves. I don't know what people's mail storage is like, but I'm determined to talk to them to get a video of them performing drill in the next several weeks hopefully, and would like to post it up.

It's always easier to SEE the drill instead of explaining it. Does anyone have their pathfinders on video for fancy / precision drill?

My club had an advanced (fancy) drill team performance during last week's camporee but only placed 3rd (along with a few other clubs). The kids were disappointed because last year we placed 2nd. I thought they did beautiful. We're going to work on a new routine for next year starting this year so that we'll be ready way before we go to camp again!

The one thing camp does not allow is formation movements without a name adhered to them (like blowing a whistle for each movement).

We did get some new ideas by watching the other clubs though, the kids are excited to get started on some fresh ideas.

Dreamcatcher,

That is an unusual form for Pathfindering, that is the restriction against non-vocal calls. In fact even in ROTC and other military prescision drill it is generally accepted if not expected under certain circumstances to do a complete drill without named calls if not in TOTAL silence.

Oh well, I am sure you guys will get up the scale next year. 3rd is not bad though, that alone takes a lot of work in prescision drill - your team did a good job.

God Bless,

Don't feel as though 3rd place is bad. Third place just shows that there is some room to do even better next year. It shouldn't be hard to get 1st place if you have a lot of the same team members next year. The team that I am working with has all new members. I am not sure exactly where we will place, but if they are willing to stay in the team for next year, than I know that the team has real promise. The bottom line is that the team needs to have fun drilling and marching.

I agree completely with VP... in our conference, the awards are given to everyone based on a point ranking. It is possible for every team to get first. And there is no one left out, it just shows the kids what they can get with a little extra work.

That's how our conference points things out too - point by the book, rather than by club vs. club. I think its very very VERY fair that way! Our fancy drill had some new members this year - I want to keep it at a max of 9 kids in the formation. It's a perfect square and a lot easier to do the more difficult moves... Good luck with your drill teams!

P.S. Thanks for the support!
