Does anyone sing cadence while marching? In all my years as a Pathfinder I've only seen one club do it at competition and they sang "We are the_____, the mighty, mighty _______". I'm not sure if it's allowed anymore but I was thinking about trying it during practice. Does anyone know of a marching song? I've tried googleing it but I can only find military ones and most of those have inappropriate lyrics.

I did the one you mentioned but I wouldn't call it a song. It was just a call and echo from the DI to the club, though it was done with varying tones like a song has varying notes. I still put it into the category of counting cadence since each phrase had 4 'downbeats'. As far as songs, I can't think of any other than a version of Onward Christian Soldiers.

I call cadences all the time when my club is marching. Generally, it is for a longer distance than just for practice since we have a limited amount of area to march in. I find it helps motivate my pathfinders and keep them busy on longer marches. Plus, when done right, cadences can rock the ground....a truly awesome sound

Calling cadence in general is really not practiced very well in Pathfinders. I would like to see it brought back. However, it takes a very long time to get good at calling cadence. I have been practicing in earnest for about a year and am just getting to where I would feel comfortable calling for my pathfinders. I should make the distinction between calling cadence and calling 'jodies'. Jodies(the military slang term) being the 'songs' mentioned earlier where there is a caller and a response from the group. Cadence calling is very difficult to describe with type, so i will not try. Cadence songs, on the other hand, are not too hard and a lot of fun to call with a club.

I would highly suggest writing some of our own cadence songs that your club can use and be unique. Take a look at the military ones to get a feel of how the lyrics are structured; then come up with your own lyrics. I believe there is a thread dedicated to Pathfinder cadence songs. You might want to check that out too.
