My wife and I were talking about fundraising for Pathfinders and my 5-year old came up with the idea of a Hamster-a-thon. Basically, it works just like a bike-a-thon but we let the hamsters do all the work for us. We contacted a small local pet shop and asked them if we could set up a track in the front of their store. We got the wood donated from Home Depot and we set up a small 6-foot track for the hamsters to run through. We put the hamsters in one of the plastic balls and let them go. The Pathfinders asked for donations by the foot or flat donations, just like a bike-a-thon. We had people bring in hamsters or, if the store is willing, they let us use some of their hamsters. The total cost for us was very minor...just printing flyers and and donation forms...and the kids averaged about $50 each in donations. All-in-all I would say it was a very successful fundraiser.

Wow, that's really creative! What a cool way to raise money!
