The first thing is what day is your pathfinders on? Ours is going to change to Tuesdays in July. Until then, it is on Wednessdays.

The second thing is what are you doing or going to do to raise money for Oshkosh? Soon we are going to have a Work-a-thon at our church. We are going to work for four hours. After that we get to go swimming!

We meet on Wednesdays. There was one year that we met on Tuesday, though.

As for fundraisers, we usually do pancake feeds, spaghetti feeds, talent shows, bake sales, car washed, garage sales, blahblahblah... lots of stuff. Some of them are combined into one event so we don't actually have that many.

Cool! We are planning actully to do a pancake feed. We usually have one when our church goes camping. It's fun!

My club meets on Mondays but during summer we meet on Tuesdays to play soccer.

My club was not planing on going because it's soooooooooooooooooooooo expensive but some people in the club wanted to go so we put together a cookbook to sell.

That is a good idea. In here, most of the club take a brake in the summer.

We finish at the end on May, but give the trophies and ribbons at campmeeting. Then we start again in September. But at the moment I'm helping teaching a six month Master Guide class. :P

Yeah it was fun to put together the cookbook. I like cooking so probably a third or so of the recipes are my mom's or mine lol. :)

Best part of cooking is eating what you cook.

One year at the Pathfinder Fair we did that the kids have to prepare Pancakes and their director had to eat it. And it was prepare on open fire. It was so funny because some of the director were like 'do we have to...' :smt042

We did that this year at our Spring Camporee. Except by the time it was my club's turn to light their cooking fire, it was pouring rain. By the time the fire was lit, the skillet was full of water. Before the pancake could finish cooking, the rain put the fire out. They were pretty demoralized at that point, and it was pretty obvious that they would not be able to flip the pancake over the rope (that was another aspect of the event). So as the director, I happily drank the mostly raw pancake. That converted them from demoralized to... well - moralized, I guess. Yes, that's the sort of thing we do for our kids all the time.

jomegat,

Hopefully someone got that on video. I mean, it was bad for them at the moment but I know it will be a laughing day down the road specially if they see the video. And how high was the rope that they need it to flip the pancake over?

No, it was not captured on video. The rope was about 2 feet off the ground.

Our club, Williamsport Warriors Pathfinder Club, in Williamsport, Maryland, has had good success of selling pizzas --Joe Corbi's, and Little Caesar's have good profit margins. The kids sold to neighbors, parents sold to coworkers and we sold a lot. Since the pizza kits require refrigeration, we had to accept delivery and get the items back to the Pathfinders for delivery right away. It's a good bit of work, but does pay well. One of those programs offers cookie dough, too, a great option. We may do this again, along with our new idea.

This year we're going to try a donation program at church, focusing on church members. I read about this in a book of fundraising ideas and thought it would work for our members. It seems that they prefer to donate small amounts regularly rather than buy something. You add up the cost of your trip, mileage, meals, motel rooms/camping spaces, etc. and divide that total by the number of miles you will travel. People can sponsor a mile and help fund the trip.

We are going to break our expenses down into miles, meals, and motels. People can sponsor miles or meals or motel and other expenses. We will show our progress on a board so that members can see how well we are doing overall. There will be a map from Williamsport, Maryland to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the mileage and we'll highlight the miles as we have them paid for. We'll find something similar to show our progress on the meals and the nights stayed.

All the best!

The club I'm with is about 195 miles away, so therefore I'm not able to make it to most of the meetings they have.

The main thing we did to raise money to get to Oshkosh was selling cookbooks. We put together a cookbook of our favorite recipes and then we sold them during campmeeting & some of the other pathfinders in our group even sold some to their dentist's! We're also having a bike-a-thon in September to raise money too!

I'm extremely interested in this bike-a-thon. Would you mind explaining more about it?

We starting out at the conference academy and we'll go 50 miles to in a round about way and we'll end up back at the academy. For us pathfinders we are having people pledge about 50 - 75 cents per mile and when it's all completed we'll put our money together and use it for gas and food along the way. Some of us teens like myself are doing the calculations and we don't think it will be enough money just from that to feed us young people. :D LOL!
