University of Wisconsin-Madison has developed WEBird, an iPhone app for identifying birds by their calls. I don't have an iPhone, but the app is getting good reviews from ornithologists. Basically, you record the bird you hear and the app uploads it to a server which will identify the species.

Both the Birds and Birds - Advanced have requirements to identify a number of birds by their songs. This app should be a great resource for meeting those requirements.

This is a fun app. As a family we are enjoying it...just downloaded it yesterday and already have used it a few times on our Sabbah afternoon hike :)
