I don't know, but I would certainly like to find out. I don't think they have made a decision just yet....

Although the location for the next CYE sponsored International Camporee in NAD is not set. I beleive the TED has decided on a location for their next Division Camporee as has South America.

Those will be fun to visit too, I am sure.

CYE is the Center for Youth Evangelism in the USA; they plan our camporee for the NAD (North American Division)

TED is the TransEuropean Division of the church.

Sorry,

Chris

BUT NOW I DO KNOW!

Is there a possibility that it will be held at Bandimere Speedway again?

Bandimere Speedway was sold and they have built something at that location. I don't remember what, a shopping mall or hotel or whatever.

Not likely to have another Camporee at Bandimere.

I saw drag racing being held at Bandimere Speedway last week on T.V. It is still an operational track. I recognized it immediately before I learned of the track location because of the major upward slope at the end of the run. It brought back a lot of memories from the 1994 Camporee.

Hey, me too! My youngest son was three years old and even he remembered the track. He was saying, Hey mom, do you remember when the greyhound and the Bluebird school bus ran a race there? LOL!!

haha, I laughed so hard at some of the stuff that they'd race down that track... It was great! Too bad we can't go again. I remember Rich Mullins there performing "Awesome God." What a shame that he died. :(

I guess I am mis-informed on the track being sold.

I called the CYE last week about the location of camporee. They told me that the are not going to make a decision on the location until December 2006. This will only give clubs two and a half years to plan.

I promise you this much, based on my experience. You can start planning now for the expenses involved. For those outside the thousand mile radius of the location it will be 300 - 600.00USD per head.

Do you need to know then where it will be to plan. Not really, just plan to have travel and start putting together your funds at the middle level of that range. If you do this when the time comes that an announcement is made you will have far less money to raise (or maybe known if it will be close to you) - that is the only element that requires long term planning.

I spoke with Ron Whitehead over the weekend, he said that we would know the location by next summer. But he gave no clues as to where they were looking.

Our club will start raising funds this year and every year until the next Camporee and not worry about location.

I hope to be able to go early this time and help set up.
I have wanted to do that for years, but I had to help with getting the club to the Camporee.

We will start fundraising this year as well. Better to be well prepared.

If my sources are correct, :smt017 there are only two places in the US that could hold the number of people that come to the International camporees for the extended amount of time. Those two, from what I've heard, are Oshkosh, and Talledega Superspeedway. I however, think that it might be possible that a place could be found to host 40,000 people. I hope.

There are actually a large number of such places. Finding one that will meet some criteria beyond size is another problem. One I am sure the committee will deal with in outstanding fashion.

That's good. :smt026 Cause I really don't want to go to a big race track. Even though it could be fun, it just doesn't suit the whole camping aspect. :smt009

We had a Pacific Union Camporee at Laguna Secca in Cali. about 12 years ago that was pretty cool, I enjoyed. The big tracks like Pocono, Tallidega and some others are well groomed, some are wooded or semi-rural and most have lakes. Camping could be a spectator sport though.

Do you think we could get 170,000 people to come watch us camp  ?

That would be fun. Maybe we could get fox to come cover the action. I think thier viewers would dramatically increase over the 5 days. All thanks to drill and the other events. Oh yeah. :smt112

LOL Ok now Chris, I thought we were to be centralizing the locale a little? hahaha.

I would love a centralized location almost as much as I would like it to be in the vacant desert lot behind my house (that is a bit small).

I'm sure there is plenty of room in the Central States. But is any of it able to support that many people for a week? I've been wondering why we don't do something in Canada? They have lots of room up there and it's really pretty. Who knows, thats' just my two cents.
