Yes, it was awesome! My kids (and I) especially enjoyed the fireworks. It was pretty hard to get them to go to sleep after that, but that's OK.

Yeah it was an awesome first time experience for me, except for the one trip i made to the medical center. They might should plant more trees out where the stage area was because that way there would be less people suffering from the heat! Yeah but luckily my club directors were smart and brought instant ice pack things to keep me cool.

It wasn't that hot (well, I'm from Florida so lol) - I actually loved the temps! I found out that as long as I was drinking plenty of water & drinks with electolytes (such as Gatorade) and eating nutritious meals (lots of fruits and veggies to keep the body going), I was fine. Sure I sweated plenty - but I didn't feel awful! I had plenty of energy to keep me going all day!

I think compare to Florida, that was better. By the way, any idea what is the website that publish the pictures of the Camporee. I think is Michigan, but cannot remember the name. I'm looking to see if there are pictures from the Thursday night Columbia Union program.

I know Andrews U. had some pictures from FOF, but I'm not sure if they are hosting the camporee photos again for CTS. Southern union has a website that has some pics from the Southern Union area there...

:( yeah I wish i had gatorade with me at Oshkosh it probably would''ve helped me a lot! :!: Yeah well in 5 years I'll almost be staff and probably more wiser on what to bring. Yeah it better not snow! Since i come from MI i'm used to lots of SNOW!!! I get so tired of it sometime! That's why our conference has a special Teen Snow Outing for all 13+ pathfinders at our summer camp. It's a really fun event especially since there are less pathfinders and more people my age!

Yes, in here is the same. But we get mid 70s.

By the way, I heard comments that the song was not so great this time. Any comments?

As a musician and amateur sound engineer, I thought the theme song was pretty good. Way better than Discover The Power or Dare To Care. A few cliche' and predictable lines but so did Faith On Fire. As just a normal person, I still thought it was good. Nice use of including a rewritten portion of a better known song as a bridge.

I think some people thought too highly of the Faith On Fire theme song. No doubt it is a good song but because of it being significantly better than a few somewhat disappointing theme songs before it, I think it was placed on a higher pedistal in people's minds than it really belonged. Perhaps that is the reason why a few may think Courage To Stand wasn't as good, it didn't set a new bar or quality. I'd rank Faith On Fire and Courage To Stand about equal.

Faith on Fire was a good song, but it's best function is as a theme song. Courage to Stand is a really good song in my opinion, and I think it's fun to sing and a great song to listen to. I don't think it was as great of a "theme song" as Faith on Fire was, but it was a better song in other ways, and I really like it.

yeah well they had a contest for the song and i voted out of the top ten and the song they picked was definitely one i didn't want to vote for. Yeah also the judges picked the Bond family again! The bond family did Faith on Fire and other camporee songs. In my club there were two lady staff who tried for it i loved their song but the people hated it. Overall i didn't like the song it's just too weird. Did i mention this family has alreay been on 3ABN, My place with Jesus, etc.? I just wish they would've picked someone else who hasn't already done the theme song before! I knew lots of people who tried for it and i know they were very disapointed when they found out. The notes in the song just seemed to not go well together. The words really didn't seem right.

Well, the only official judging that really happened was to choose the top ten. I had a couple friends who submitted a song and it didn't get picked for the top ten, even though it was pretty good. But once the top ten were picked, the one that got chosen was pretty much up to the voters. There were nine other songs to choose from, but Pathfinders from all over the country (and world) chose Emily Beth's song.

I just wanted to put my two cents in here ... writing a theme song is a big challenge. It is significantly MORE than just writing a good song. The challenge is in writing a good song that fits the title and theme someone else has chosen for you, WHILE at the same time crafting lyrics that will both be meaningful to young people today and meaningful within the story of Esther. There are places in this song where the lyrics have multiple meanings depending on the context. So even if someone is listening without the context of Esther, it is still a powerful song. So, from my perspective as a songwriter, I thought it was a well thought out song lyrically AND had a very nice melody as well. Very singable and well done.

Here are a few of the lyrics ...

Verse 1
We are called to stand, for such a time as this
We must fight for what is right and learn to trust in Him
We have a truth to live for, a promise to defend
Stand up tall, stand up proud, Till the very end

Chorus
Stand strong, stand firm
Press on until the end and claim the promise of His word
We have got a message
Let's spread it through the land
Praying for the Courage to Stand

Brian,

Thanks for your input! I agree with you. To me personally, it is one of the most fun songs to sing, and I think the lyrics are good.

I don't think I liked the theme song very much when I first heard it, but once the camporee came I loved it. Odd how that works. :\

Hey Mr. Stitler!

I was wondering where i could get a copy of the Courage To Stand soundtrack? I was too busy with a medical issue that i wasn't able to get one at Oshkosh. Do you know if it will be going on itunes? The soundtrack i'm talking about is the one for the evening play, not the theme song one. Thanks! :D
