Below is a poem written by Sharon Snow the Director of the DeQueen Arkansas Pathfinder Club.

It was not yet light when our trip began
All loaded, 3 trucks, suburban and van
Pulling Jonathan's trailer and a mobile abode
We were all gassed up and all up to code.

Food in boxes and coolers, and vacuum packs
Some for cooking as meals, some for lunches and snacks
There were cookers and pans and water jugs too
Oh, the wonderful things Pathfinders can do!

It wasn't like traveling in days of old
With Pacos Bill bumping over the road
We had air conditioning and cushioned seats
DVD's and Gameboys and little TVs

The kids didn't complain and nothing went wrong
They never missed home, they brought it along!
And we traveled two days, reached the Camporee Park
Waited in line for a year and put up camp in the dark

We were all wearing shorts and how could we know
That the temps would drop and the winds would blow
And blow and blow and rain and blow
We wrapped in blankets- prayed it wouldn't snow

The place was huge and the buildings were packed
And we walked where we went and then we walked back
We waited in line and had fun and we learned
Then we went to the next line and waited our turn.

Once we were tucked in beds and turned out the light
After we had been blessed by the programs each night
We slept like babies in our circle of tents
And prayed for strength for tomorrow's events.

We would hit the ground running and fast flew the hours
God blessed our hygiene, port-a-potties and showers
He helped us work together in our work and play
And brought us closer to each other each day.

The things that went wrong were quickly corrected
And the Grace of God kept our hearts connected
We were there for the kids and like eagles they soared
They slept like angels (some of those angels snored!)

Our trip back home was a bit more subdued
We longed for our beds and some hot, home cooked food
Some were eager to see their darlings back home
(Not all of us had our spouses in tow)

So, all in all, when all is said and done
We enjoyed ourselves and had loads of fun
We thank the ones who got us there
With money and help and love and prayer.

We're tired now and laying low
Avoiding crowds and moving slow
But we know someday...though we don't know when
We'll pack it back up and do it again!

Wish I had the talent to write something like this.

Thanks for sharing.

I copied the poem and sent it to the FOF Camporee Executive Director, Ron Whitehead, and other members of the downline team.

The poem was printed in a Conference News Letter.

I loved the poem, especially the two last lines.

Almost every Camporee I have gone on, I will lay in my tent about midnight and wonder why I put myself through all the work it takes to get a group to a Camporee and deal with the thousand problems that come up. Then I think of each individual member of the club and what the event might do to help them know Jesus better. Then I have no trouble sleeping and knowing why I am there.

Mr. Mike
