Before the Metal slides the JMV and pre-JMV classes each had their own slide made from plastic and the color of the class rank. The pre-JMV classes had the symbol of the class on them too.

If yo find them they will be someones old ones or those left behind in a club or conference storage area they have been antiquated for about 20years now.

I called the Inter American Division today, to find out about ordering a Metal Slide. I was told that they don't have them

Anyone have a suggestion on where to look next?

Ebay??? :smt102 I don't know where you could find a new one. I think, unfortunately, you'll just have to find an individual that does not want theirs anymore. Could be hard. Good luck. :smt023

You know... seeing that alot of people lose their slides, I could pass this tidbit on... we tie a knot in our scarves, and slide the slide over the knot. That way it's tight, and doesn't come off ;) NEVER lost a slide when we do that. Ever :D

I highly recommend it. It takes a little practice to get the ends straight, but overall it works well, especially when you twist the ends of your scarves

I have seen different MG slides. A large yellow plastic one, a standard metal one, and maybe a cloth one. Is there a specific one that I should get?

Can one still get MG metal slides? If so, where?

Are conferences allowed to create unique slides for their pathfinders? I have one that was given to me that has the conference state outline and the pathfinder symbol on top of the state.

I have never seen a yellow plastic one. There was once upon a time a yellow plastic slide it was Guide. The plastic MG slides were white and over time had the class stripes on them as each class was added (that is the only real difference). The Metal ones were wider and had a green emblem that was a better finish than the thing Pathfinder metal slide had. Few people new the difference or were aware of it.

The current MG slide is a cloth slide with the MG world emblem on it and is $1.95 at AdventSource or through your conference, you should be given one and an appropriate scarf when you are invested.

The conference specific slides, pins and other items are fine, if they meet your conference's uniform criterian and will not be uniform outside your conference.

Ok. I would like to find a metal MG slide at some point. Maybe I can find one on ebay.

In the Texas Conference, there is a metal slide that has the state of Texas on it with the Pathfinder shield.

We also have a special metal slide with the state of Texas on it and the Master Guide emblem on it.

They both look awesome.

We also have a heavy duty metal belt buckle with a combination of Texas and Pathfinders on it.

Other states and/or conferences should have their own metal slides and belt buckles. They look awesome worn as part of the class A uniform.

I know first-hand how hard it can be to find a slide. I worked the the Florida Pathfinder store for 3 years and when I heard that the metal slides were being discontinued, I tried to find more. We were already out of them @ the store, so I called every conference I could--national and international--and was able to buy the last 4 metal Master Guide slides in Puerto Rico. It was the only place I could find them. I gave 2 to my husband and kept two for myself. I keep my extra one w/ all the important documents, in a safe place. I wish I had been able to find a pathfinder slide. I look on ebay for them all the time and never find any.

For those who still have the metal slide, cherish them. They are quickly being Pathfinder relics.

Only if you live outside of Texas.

Other conferences should purchase metal slides for their pathfinder clubs.

Here we have plenty of metal slides, belt buckles, and master guide metal slides. It is simply a choice. If you conference does not want to do it, then you are simply out of luck. If you want a metal slide from Texas, then email the conference office and you can buy one.

My counselor buys a lot of stuff on ebay. You might want to check there for metal slides. :?:

I like the metal slides as well. Before I left the Texas Conference, they gave me a metal slide with the state behind the pathfinder logo. It is very special to me.

In an unexpected turn of events the North American Division voted to make a  Change in Cloth Slide Colors! :!: AdventSource should receive the new slides within the next two weeks.

 The background and edging are both black but still boasts a yellow (gold) globe grid and the centered red triangle. This writer (Lonny) thinks this is an improvement over the green slides. The news brought a mixed reaction from AdventSource staff today. So what do you think?

I saw some of those at the Atlantic Union Camporee in May. Come to think of it, I met Lonnie there too!

My first thought was - "that's different," and I didn't much like it. But I think it's really a familiarity thing. We're so used to the green ones, that they just seem... right. But the slide is about the only green thing left on the uniform - pretty much everything else is khaki and black. So a black slide seems... right. It'll just take some getting used to.

I don't recall why they went the way they did, but yes, the slides were according to the class you were in. Friend slides were blue, Companion red, Explorer green. I don't remember the other class colors, but that was before Voyager was a class, so there would've only been Ranger and Guide. Not sure about Master Guide.

I love the new slides, I think they look sooo much better with the yellow scarf--much bolder. Idk, I really like them. I have a metal slide and I use the knot method of keeping it up--it works really well!

What about white shirts for the TLTs? I have my own opinions on this, but I would like to hear your's!

As was "guessed at" before, the new slides with a black background, are in order to match the black / kahki theme for our uniforms. Because the WORLD uniform is still green however, the world patch on the left shoulder will probably remain green for the forseeable future..... Its tied to the General Conference color theme, not the NAD theme.

On the other note about how each year you used to get a new colored slide.... The Master Guide Slide was gold plated with a multi-colored world. All other slides were plastic and ONE color with a liter colored etching of the world.

So is it a REQUIREMENT to get the new black slide, or can we keep our old ones?

You can keep the old ones but you may not be able to wear them. Your club will need to check with your conference Youth Department for an definite answer to that question, they set the standard for what uniform requirements you must abide by.
