Sure, anyone can teach an Honor that they can get the proper material, answers, and methods for to anyone else. No, cutting corners  If you successfully teach (that is your student(s) successfully complete as well) an Honor you have earned the Instructor's Diamond for the patch.

If you would set any limitations they are those that are spelled out, the students must meet the prerequisites and be at least 10 and in the 5th grade. You can even teach Honors you do not have, that is how many of us old folks keep getting new Honors.

I have taught a few honors that I didn't earn (even when I was finished teaching). For example, last year I taught the Insects honor. All my PF's drew the requisite number of insects, but I didn't get a chance to do this. Therefore, I didn't earn it myself. As soon as I get around to drawing all the insects, I'll get the patch for my own sash, and then I'll put the diamond on it.

So I'd say you can't have the teaching diamond unless you have the honor, but that you can have the teaching diamond for any honor you've taught once you have that honor yourself. Of course, that's my own policy for me, but it seems reasonable.

Does that make sense?

Yes, on the introduction page of the 2000 NAD AY Honors Handbook under Instructors the Diamond is briefly explained.

Jim, is right though. If you do not get the chance to complete the Honor yourself (unless you are and experienced and well qualified instructor for the particular Honor [Rock Climbing or CPR Instructors for examples] OR have previously earned the Honor) you will need to complete it before wearing the patch.

I will agree with you jomegat. One must earn the honor they are teaching before they are eligible to put the diamond on the patch.
