Hello All,

Some Pathfinders don't wish to SEW their patches to their uniform...BSA has adhesive kits available....In your experience, do they work? 12" square costs $9, so pricey to be sure. http://www.scoutstuff.org/bsa/uniforms- ... -kits.html

Another option is hem adhesive...all you need is a roll of it (1/4" and 1/2" available at JoAnns, Hobby Lobby, etc.) and an iron (and of course the patch). It's cheaper the the BSA option, though it doesn't adhere to the very edge of the patch.

I've used "Patch Attach" in the past, and yes, it did work. But then I needed to move the patches for some reason. I was able to get the patches off, but it left an indelible residue on the sash. Since the patches couldn't be where they had been attached originally, and since nothing was there to cover that spot, it basically totaled the sash. I haven't used it since.

So if you're sure you're never going to need to move the patch, it will work just fine.

I personally HAND stitch -- for the simple reason that WHEN I need to move my patches, the stitches are "wide" enough for me to easily get off.

About 2 years ago I did pay someone to sewing machine stitch my 150+ honors onto a custom 5-wide sash...presuming that I am probabaly not doing very much patch moving again...unless they go back to green sashes or go to orange ones LOL!

However, I DID you the hem adhesive to attach the LITTLE TINY adventurer awards to my Adventurer sash...for the simple reason its REALLY hard to sew such TINY patches with any precision....if it totals the sash (which I believe it does) I guess I'll just buy an new sash if it comes to that...ah well.

AdventSource now partnered with BadgeMagic to provide adhesives that are specially made to not leave any residue once removed. Different kits for Pathfinders, Adventurers and uniforms can be found here: http://www.adventsource.org/as30/store- ... x?ID=37163

I just bought a new batch of club crests from http://pathfindershirts.com, and it came with an adhesive backing. Iron on, and importantly, iron off too (i.e., heat it with an iron for a couple of minutes to remove). Once I had ironed it on, I stitched it as well (it's easier to get it placed correctly that way - when I sew, patches creep!)

I have also used velcro. It was easy to move patches around and whenever I would teach an honor, the kids liked to be able to see the patch. I would just rip it off and pass it around for the kids to see, then put it right back. You could only tell from up close that the patches weren't sewn on. I never had any fall off either.

I would not exactly recommend it, it is not for everyone. It worked well for me, though.
