I have wondered this for years.....
I know the background color for the PF honor is for the category it falls under but what does the embroidered ring color stand for? I was looking at the Nature honors; Dogs and mammals have a tan ring, Antelope black, Cetaceans medium blue, Ecology green.
But Geocaching, model rocketry, basic rescue, basic water safety and literature evangelism all have a yellow ring.

Thanks,

Although I cannot answer definitively, I have always assumed the ring color is whatever was aesthetically pleasing for the design, or was a major component color of the embroidery in the design, as opposed to having a specific meaning (Level I, II and III for example).

not sure that helps, but maybe it can help elicit a better response,

I'm almost certain that it's purpose is no more than aesthetic, except in cases where it indicates a level. Examples of the ring indicating a level are Camping Skills and First Aid. For those, the color matches that class that typically learns that honor:

*Blue/Friend, for Camping Skills I
*Red/Companion, for Camping Skills II & Basic First Aid
*Green/Explorer, for Camping Skills III
*Silver/Ranger, for Camping Skills IV & Standard First Aid
*Gold/Guide, for Advanced First Aid

I can't think of another example of the color indicating level (but it would be cool if we did that with the swimming honors, and renamed them Swimming I, Swimming II, etc).
