My club, well actually the whole WI conference, is working on the winter camp honor. I see the honor requires sleeping in a tent, under a tarp, or in the open. Two of the nights must be at or below 32F or 0C.

There is no mention of whether the tent can have a space for fire.

I'm planning to buy or build a teepee. Large enough to have room at the center for a fire.

Now the dilemma. I don't want to cheapen the honor by doing something that would diminish the work of all those who have already earned that honor.

I'm wondering what the opinion is of other PF personnel.

Fire? No fire?

I'd light a fire.

When I earned this honor, I slept in an igloo. I think the specification of a tarp, tent,or in the open was meant to disqualify a cabin or an RV, not to disallow a fire in a teepee or the use of an igloo or other snow shelter. Kudos to you for building a fire.

The funny thing (to me) is that the kids in our conference (Northern New England) pretty much meet this requirement just by attending the regular campouts and camporees. It always drops into the 40's or colder when we camp in September and May (and in the months in between). It invariably drops below freezing during at least one camping trip every year. All we have to do is keep track.
