I was wondering if anyone could give me direction on what the process is to submit a request for a new honor.

Hi xycd, welcome to the forum.

There are guidelines at XYRI. That page also links to this one, which tells you how to submit the honor once you're finished developing it. The key point is that you have to get your local conference PF director to submit the honor to the NAD on your behalf, and that's after you have had the honor piloted by three clubs.

I'd be interested to know what honor you are considering for this!

It's a snowboarding honor. I have not developed it yet. It's something I like doing as often as I can but I'm by no means an expert. However, I have many knowledgable friends I can use as resources.

This idea started because I have a nephew in PF and it got me interested in honors he might be getting. I was a PF about 20 years ago and I've forgotten a lot over the years but I remember how much I enjoyed the activities involved in achieving honors and receiving my badges.

Anyway, I looked through the current honors and noticed that there are two different skiing honors but no snowboarding. So I would like to see one available :)

Thank you for the link! I will look over the guidelines and begin my research and development ASAP. I have another question though. What exactly consists of having an honor "piloted"?

Having it piloted means that three clubs have tried it out. There is another form somewhere (probably on XYRI) that the piloting clubs can fill out to provide feedback to the honor's author. This feedback should be incorporated back into the honor or the reason for not incorporating the recommendation should be explained. I believe the conference PF director will want to see this feedback to make sure that either a) the recommendations were followed, or b) the author has good reason to not implement them.

Piloting ensures that the honor is doable by trying it out with real kids and real PF staff. My club has piloted honors in the past, and in fact, we're working on a couple right now that should be ready to submit soon (Fire Fighting and Fire Safety). When we piloted them, we were sure to exercise every aspect of each requirement, meaning that if the requirement was to do a, b, or c, we did a, b, AND c, just to be sure that all of the options were workable.

I think it's high time for a snowboarding honor. Good luck with it!
