I initially agreed with B&K being equivalent and in fact edited the requirements to reflect the change. Then I went to edit the answers and saw that "Air Unit" was "Air Cascade Unit" whose function is "A vehicle used to supply breathing air to refill self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)."

What do you think?

I still agree with removing the 911 requirement though, and leaving it as "How are fire fighters contacted to let them know there is a fire?"

I see. My department just calls it an air truck. I think that we may need to make that clearer in the requirements.

Those were the only two things that I could see as needing attention. I'm planning on piloting this honor with the clarification and 911 modification to some in my club this year. We'll see how it goes.

I'm gad to hear that. :)

I know that the part our club like best was when they got to use a fire extinguisher to put out a fire we had lit in a metal garbage can in the parking lot. Frankly, I think this may be one of the most beneficial requirements we have in there, as it provides a kid with real experience in doing something that could save lives in the future.

Touring the fire station was also very much enjoyed by everyone. I don't think I've ever seen a kid not enjoy that.

I'd be curious to hear what your group liked the best.

There's a field in there to name the club with whom the Pathfinder has piloted the honor so that we can show that it was piloted in three (or more) places. I urge you to have your students fill in the survey (and... I might make it a condition for sending patches! If your group fills in 15 surveys, I will allow you to buy 15 patches).

Jomegat,

Can you send me the exact link for the two online surrveys? The director of the club that did the Pilot called me and told me that she couldn't open the link that I sent to her. What I did was open the link that you have here and copy the whole information of the link. Or any other way for her to get to the online surveys?

Hi Betsy,

I emailed you the link. It's the same as the one I posted, and when I went there, they surveys came up right away. I wonder what's going wrong?

Hi Jomegat,

Got it. I also check the one that I sent her and it open too. I will talk to her tomorrow to find out why she couldn't open it. I will let you know.

Jomegat,

OK, will remind the Director to remind each Pathfinder/Counselor to complete the survey.

I have received several surveys now. I'm trying to pull all the info together to submit to the NAD, so I need to know the names of all the clubs (and conferences) that have piloted it. Also, if you have any feedback about the honor (good or bad), please post it here or send me an email.

Welcome back Geoff. The Fire honors have been submitted to the NAD now. Hopefully we'll hear something soon. :-D

The committee meets March 4-6, 2012 in Greensboro.

I will post something about all the new proposed honors that are approved as soon as it is officially voted on this forum and on the fornt page of Pathfindersonline.org.

All parts were submitted, the piloting survey results were impressive as well.....

Hoping for good things. This would, I believe, be the first NAD Honor made possible thanks to Forum-technology :)

Mark

The Fire Safety honor was accepted by the NAD with minor modifications. The requirements and answers are now available on the wiki.

Unfortunately, the committee did not approve the Fire Fighting honor. I will make some changes to it and resubmit, but not in time for the 2013 meeting.

Well at least one of them got accepted, and for the first time ever as a result of this forum! So, I think that is a job well-done :D

I'm so excited. Let me know if I can help with anything to get the Firefighting Honor ready for representation.

I've also gone ahead and marked the Fire Safety honor as 100% complete on the wiki. I don't see anything on there as being thin or missing. All that's left is discussion & project. Those are really up to each group doing the honor.

What would need to be done for the Firefighting Honor to ready for representation?

I plan to resubmit it for consideration next year. I will not be able to attend the honor task force meeting this year due to scheduling conflicts, and I would like to be there personally when it is presented. The only feedback I got on its rejection was that it was not universally doable by all clubs in the NAD. The piloting process revealed no such problems, so I found this feedback pretty confusing. I suspect they took issue with the fire break requirement, but that's just a guess on my part. When I pressed for details, I was given none. We might want to come up with some alternatives to the fire break requirement and offer a range of options from which a club could choose to make it more universal.

If you see anything else in there that might present universality problems, let me know.

BTW, I met one of your friends from Southern at the NNEC PF Leadershuip Training weekend last month - Sunny Tier. Next time you see him, tell him I said "Hi".
