How many of your Conferences hold Honors Festivals?

I define a Honors Festival as an event where a regional group gets together and completes one or two honors in a single day. Might play a few games if time permits.

If so, what honors have you found to be easy to teach in a group setting in a short period of time?

Mr. Mike

Gulf States has hosted a honors weekend for staff and TLT's for a number of years now. Some honors that are slated for the upcoming weekend in February are Digestive Tract, Drawing and Painting, Marine Mammals, Quilting, Photography, Physics, String Art, and Geocaching. The basics of the honor are taught; sometimes there is "homework" in order to complete the honor.

Our honors festivals are for the Pathfinder Members as well as TLT's and Staff. Had not thought of a separate session for the TLT's and Staff.

Pathfindering is great, but who brought all these kids :!:

Honors that I've seen work @ Honor days/weekends:

Sand, Dogs/Cats, Silk Screen Printing, Sanctuary, Plastics, Block Printing, Sculpturing, Basic Rescue, Red Alert, Digestion, Amphibians/Reptiles, Kites (very fun!), Currency, Stamps

THis is some I've taught in this kind of setting.

One of the reasons Gulf States provides this for the staff and TLT's is so that those who are busy teaching other honors to their club can learn new honors that may be more challenging. Also some of the honors have had requirements change recently. And some of us "old hounds" need to be taught some new tricks to use in our instructing our club.

I try to teach new honors at Honors Festivals so that I get a new one, but mostly so that the older Pathfinders have something new. I have heard to many times, "I have that honor".

Most of the honors that a 2 to 3 year Pathfinder do not have take too long to complete in the festival format.
