I was invested with PLA two years ago. Basically, I attended seminars at Leadership Convention that pertained to the requirements, but it is only recently that my conference added the PLA track to the Leadership training schedule. Most of the materials were geared toward Master Guide and Basic Staff training. Some of the seminar requirements I was actually able to have signed off because of years of practical experience (12 years of Drill & March can be helpful). I do know that the NAD has a Leadership Convention which should be taking place next year, and they run a PLA and PIA track. Otherwise, postings on this site would be a great help to all.

I have completed the PLA and if you need help let me know.

I know that is hard to find resources and ideas to cover all the requirements. I’m about to start the PIA track and I have some questions myself. Also I need to create a series of seminars for a group of 20 PLA’s that want to continue with their PIA track.

Maybe what we need to do is have a chat forum and help each other.

I think you two can really help me with my problem. This may be just in terms of records of staff qualifications. I've been the Master Guide Club director in mountain view college 2004-2006, (philipppines). I've followed the manuals for the PLA and PIA in my term. i've attended many pathfinder staff training courses basic and advnced even sometimes as resource person. what more shall I do? tnx

If you have completed all the requirements then what you need to do is to have someone who is qualify to sign your card. In our conference, the Conference Pathfinder Director is qualify to sign the cards. Ask your Division Youth Director if the structure level is different and he may point you in the right direction. Try to find a mayor event to be invested and order your supplies. If you have any other question feel free to email me at alfa0722@hotmail.com

God Bless you :D

I will be invest as PLA at the LU Camporee in Septemner, so I started the PIA training. One of the Pre-Requisites is that I have to submit a PIA application to my Conference Pathfinder director. My question is, where do I get that application form.

Hi Betsy,

There is no offical GC or NAD application. Check with your Conference Director and see what he wants and if they have one they are using. Some conferences are not really doing that step as they are rarely involved in teaching PLA.

If you need an application for certain in your conference and they do not have one ready and want one, let me know I am sure I can help you out with that.

Hi Fish,

Thanks. I sent an email to Mike, our Conf Director and my 'boss'. In here we are really involved with PLA/PIA. During our Leadership Weekend, he make sure to have training for MG, PLA and PIA. I will let you know what he said.

Got a question regarding 'Prepare a Pathfinder article for Publication.' Since I'm Area Coordinator anytime any of my clubs do an activity (Induction, Investiture, etc) I write about it in the Conference Pathfinder Webpage. Can that be count as an article that is been published?

Yes, those articles would probably count. The goal is to increase the number of available articles that conferences and union have supplied to them about Pathfinder issues! Writing for a website is a fine medium, as long as good grammer, decent article length, etc. are taken into account. However, I would encourage you to also submit an article to the printed version of your conference newsletter or union paper!

Writing guidelines can be found for the majority of adventist publications with a simple google search.

I am an invested PLA and PIA Master Guide. It took a few years, but was accompolished. I am fortunate to be in a conference where we have trained lay conference staff that teach these required seminars on a regular basis at yearly youth leadership conventions and specified weekends. There is a lot that has to be accompolished as an individual. But for some you just need the give and take of discussion and interaction in a class or seminar. Our teachers use Power Point presentations, but Power Point presentations are merely outlines. The presenters have the head knowledge and experience to teach the classes. One person said to me "If I just had the Power Point I could teach the class." Wish that were true, but it isn't.
I hope that you can work with your local conference or union to find the knowledgeable teachers to work with you.
For publishing we ask the candidates to write news articles of Conference wide Pathfinder activities for the Review, Union Paper, for the Conference Pathfinder Newsletter, or local town paper. Sometimes they write articles on leadership for the Pathfinder Newsletter.

I have a question. Who can sign off on PLA & PIA. Does it have to be someone who has already completed the certification or can it be an MG?

In most cases it needs to be the person teaching the module that you have completed (and it needs to have been sanctioned ahead of time by your conference).

(PLA) Your club director can sign off on the pre-req as they have first-hand knowledge of your current involvement. Again this will do for most of personal growth. The rest is all classes that are provided by or must be sanctioned by the conference that you will attend.

I was wondering... last time I looked at the PIA requirements they seemed kind of dated... are they still that way? or have they been updated? and if they are, can we update them to fit today's standards?

That's what I am thinking.... does anyone know how one would go about Updating something like that? And should it be a PIA to update... or would it matter?
