The Master Guide logo includes a world map at its center, symbolizing that we are to go «to all the world», as the AY Aim states. I have noticed, though, that on some designs of the MG logo, there is a horrible map inaccuracy. This seems to be specific to the MG logos that have a blue edge outside of the yellow one, such as the logo represented on the official MG flag (this image can be found on the GC Youth Ministries website). This MG logo has the equator running through several countries it should not be running through. According to that map, the bottom coast of the US is located at the equator and so is the Mediterranean Sea. Countries like Ecuador (which literally means equator) are found well below this line. It's as if the entire world was shifted down.

This is a very similar distortion to the Mercator projection. A simple Google search on the inaccuracies of the Mercator projection results in finds such as this one: «Peters pointed out that the Mercator map has a distortion in the northern hemisphere, making North American and Eurasian countries appear much larger than they actually are. For example, Greenland and Africa are shown as roughly the same size, although in reality Africa is about fourteen times larger. In contrast, the regions along the equator—Africa, India, and South America, to name a few—appear smaller, especially when seen next to the distorted northern half of the map. It was Peters's belief that this error led many in the developed world to ignore the struggles of the larger, poorer nations near the equator.»

There are other versions of the MG logo that do not have this inaccuracy so I do not understand why a logo with an inaccurate map was chosen to actually be put on the official flag and represent the Master Guides and, in essence, the church. This is also the logo that is represented on the GC official website. The NAD website uses a logo where the world map does not even distinguish any recognizable continents.

Things of this nature may seem trivial and nit-picky, but must always be taken into consideration, especially in an ever-globalizing world. The logo is of the ministry; the ministry is of the church; the church is of God. We must always represent ourselves and God in complete truthfulness and accuracy.

I won't argue that the Mercator projection didn't cause many to ignore the struggles of those who live in the tropics and southwards. But the advantage Mercator provided was that you could plot a bearing on such a map, and if you followed it, you would actually reach your destination. But other than that... yeah!

True, the Mercator projection was advantageous for European navigators, but on the MG logo, the equator should really run through where it is supposed to. Again, there are other versions of the logo out there that do have a more accurate map. I'm just wondering why the distorted one is used as the official one.
