What cadences do you use when marching? I remember really enjoying them (with a tinge of embarrassment) as a Pathfinder. I especially enjoyed doing cadences when marching in our local parades. It was a nice way of staying together while marching (did not help the wrong foot always ) Here is one that I can remember right now:

I don't know but I've been told
Holly Pathfinders are as good as gold
Sound off 1, 2
Sound off 3, 4
Take it on down 1, 2, 3, 4

Does anyone have any they really like and are willing to share? And what do you think about doing cadences and when is it appropriate?

Does anyone know how they are put together? Is their a specific number of syllables? Is there a single or best way of calling them?

Your mommy was home when you left (your right)
Your daddy was home when you left (your right)
The cat, the dog
The turtle, the frog
They all were home when you left (your right)
Sound off . . . .

(your right) is called out by the squad.

Start the cadence on the left foot and it comes out right. (pun intended)

We have used a cadence that went something like:

I don't know but I've been told
Our Pathfinder staff is getting old
Getting to sleep is a real chore
You should hear our leaders snore
Sound off . . . . :smt026

We would mix a fun one with:

Jesus loves us this we know
For the Bible tells us so
Little ones to Him belong
We are weak, but He is strong
Sound off . . .

Sometimes we would just sing Onward Christian Soldiers as we marched along.

Have some fun while you march :!:

Hi everyone.

In our club we have a couple of ones that have been handed down through generations

Here is one of the favorites.... start with on your left foot...
warning: it can be tricky...

verse 1
eeny meany miney mo! let me hear your left foot go! (left stomp)

another! (left stomp)

together! (left stomp, right stomp)

verse 2
that was good that was fine! let me hear it one more time! (left stomp)

another! (left stomp)

together! (left stomp, right stomp)

now Bring it on down now. (similar to Sound off)

one, two, three, four!

one, two, threefour! (no space on purpose)

the kids have alot of fun with it by adding sound effects
when they "stomp" on step...

some of the popular ones:

1. A loud grunt! "uh"
2. "Boom"
3. "HonK"
4. any animal sound
5. a short whistle
6. a short "yeah!"

among others...

Some cadences have roots from the military, which is were I think this one came from.

A piece of tin, a nail and a board
Slap them togther you and you gota Ford
When you've got a Ford, you've got the best
You ride a mile and walk the rest.
Sound off ...

If you are doing a long march like in a parade, be careful with the stomp.
It can tire feet out in a hurry.

Mr. Mike

Came across another call that I rewrote to:

Pathfinder, Pathfinder where have you been?
To Faith on Fire and back again.

Pathfinder, Pathfinder how did you go?
In vans and buses going slow.

Pathfinder, Pathfinder what did you see?
Thousands of Pathfinders dressed like me.

Pathfinder, Pathfinder who do you love? :smt049 :smt049
Jesus, Jesus the one above.

Sound off . . .

The drillmaster asks the question, the squad answers.

Another couple of additional verses came to mind:

Pathfinder, Pathfinder what do you hear?
The 2nd coming is very near.

Pathfinder, Pathfinder what do you feel?
The love of God is very real.

Others to follow . . . .

Not sure which of these is the best.
Chose one for the theme of the cadence.

Pathfinder, Pathfinder what to you think?
Port-a-Potties - they really stink.

Pathfinder, Pathfinder what do you know?
That Port-a-Potties are in a row.

Pathfinder, Pathfinder what's in a row?
Port-a-Potties when you gota go.

This is becoming an addiction. Everywhere I walk I am trying to think up a new verse.

The latest is:

Pathfinder, Pathfinder what's for dinner?
Haystacks, Haystacks they're a winner.

My hot and tired and achy feet.

A number of years ago I tried to find some for our drill leader. Now I have a great group. Keep up the good work. I hope someone gathers these together for "posterity" – another life on this or the main pathfinder site.
I love reading them.
Thanks again

They sould great Mr. Mike. . . . Now I'd love to see a club use them successfully. . . I think the crowd would erupt in funny applause.

We have used cadences at Conference and Union Camporees when we marched as a club for some time now.
Usually start up about the reviewing stand if we are doing a parade. It helps with keeping in step.

In the past we used:

I don't know but I've been told
The Shreveport Club is mighty old
The love of Jesus is what its for
We been a club since '54.
Sound off . . .

We have also used a cadence to annouce our presence when we would march to flag raising or lowering. It gives the club a sense of unity.

Here are some that I have picked up over the years

“We are the Best”
I don’t know what you’ve been told,
The Pathfinders here are brave and bold,
Serving God and standing tall,
Giving Him are all and all,

Sound off

We work hard and do our best,
To tower above all the rest,
No one can match our skills,
We can climb the tallest hills,

sound off

Did you hear what I said,
Did you hear what I said,
We are the best, yeah,
We are the Best.

“The Drill Team Berets”
Who’s that in the black beret?
Marching up and down the street they say,
Drill team leading the way,
Leading the way to a brighter day,

Who’s that in black beret?
Showing off in a special way
Drill team lead the way,
Leads the way to a brighter day,

“The Colors”
First there came the color red,
To show the world the blood He shed,

Then there came the color white,
So show the world that we are right,

Then there came the color blue,
To show the world that we are true,

Then there came the color gold,
To show the world that we are bold,

het-ta left right,
het-ta left right left,
he-ta left right left,
he-ta left right left

“Every Were We Go”
Every where we go,
People want to know,
Who we are,
So we tell them,

Were not the boy scouts,
The outdoor boy scouts,
Were not the girl scouts,
The cookie making girl scouts,

Were not the boys club,
The know it all boys club,
Were not the girls club,
The good looking girls club,

We are the Pathfinders,
The mighty, mighty Pathfinders,
We are the Pathfinders,
The world finest Pathfinders.

Did you hear what I said,
Did you hear what I said,
Let me say it again,
Let me say it again,

We are the Pathfinders,
The mighty, mighty Pathfinders,
We are the Pathfinders,
The world finest Pathfinders.

One two,
three four,

One, two three four,
One two, three four.

“1950"
Back in the 1950's,
Pathfinders came alive you see,

First there came the color red,
To symbolize the blood Christ shed,

Then there came the color white,
To remind us of our new life,

Then there came the color blue,
To tell us to be loyal too,

Then there came the color gold,
To keep the standard we uphold,

sound of

“You Are My DI”
You are my DI (drill instructor),
My only DI,
You make me tired,
And march all day,
You’ll never know sir,
How much I loath you,
Please oh please take my DI away.

“Pathfinders”
I love working for the Pathfinder Club,
It lets me know what I should love,
Marching around and looking good,
Wearing my uniform the way should.

One, two, three, four,
One, two, three, four I love

Up in the morning to the rising,
Gonna march all day till the marching done,
12 to the front and 9 to the rear,
That’s the way we do it here,

Pathfinder Club keeps me busy all day,
I don’t know what else to day,

Sound off

These are some of the ones I really like, if you would like some more, I have many more, you can email me at Pastor_2004@yahoo.com

I have been sitting here laughing as I read all of these cadences. Some I recognize, and others I've got to try. Here are a couple or so of the ones I've heard.

Left, left,
Left my wife and forty-nine kids
and a bucket of beans in New Orleans
Think I was right

Right, right
Right by my country
By jungle I had a good home
which I left

That was the male version, here is the female one.

Left, left
Left my husband and seventeen children
to die of starvation with only gingerbread left

I know it sounds mean, but that was all we could come up with at the time.

We're not afraid to stand and fight,
we stand for truth and stand for right.
Strong in battle, strong in prayer,
we tell old Satan "get out of here!"

Sound off: Jesus
Hit it again: Is Lord
Bring it on down: Jesus is Lord, Jesus IS LORD!

And of course there's this one.

I don't know, but I've been told,
Uncle (or Aunt, or whatever the title is) insert name here, is growing old.

Down in the chicken house on my knee,
Thought I heard a chicken sneeze.
And the sayings keep rolling along....

I have been considering compling my extensive list along with those you all have put on here into a book of pathfinder jodi calls. Would anyone like to see something like that done? I think it would be cool. I would make that free, less the cost of shipping for everyone, and if you send me some that you have written I would give you credit for it in the book. But please be honest about weather or not it is actually your original work or not, but of course God knows for sure. If you would like to send me some that you have heard, used, written, send them to pastor_2004@yahoo.com and I will start putting it together, and then I will get it on the web for download for free as well.

A compiled list of Pathfinder Jodie calls sounds like fun.
Might be able to just make the list a sticky on this forum.

Jodie calls can make marching fun when used correctly. :) :)

The Pathfinder website would potentially be willing to offer a free PDF download booklet if you were needing a place to host it. . . . :)
